The cat who stole the lollipop.

30 09 2008

This is a story about a little girl and her lollipop. Lollipops are the little girl’s favorite treat.

After peeing on the potty, the girl was rewarded with a delicious “pink wallypop”. Pink is her all time favorite color, so this meant the girl was very happy. Her mommy was also happy to have a few moments to herself, when all the sudden the happy girl started screaming! “My pink wallypop, My pink wallyop!” “Rocky noooooooo!!!” Just then the girl’s very fat and furry cat, Rocky who usually moves ultra slow, darted out the room. Mommy came to the rescue, thinking the lollipop had fallen on the floor, was surprised when there was nothing there. The girl looked desperately at her mommy and yelled “Rocky took it!” The cat must have really stolen the lollipop!! Why would a cat want to steal a little girl’s lollipop?

Turns out this poor kitty didn’t want the lollipop at all, but it had gotten stuck to his fuzzy fur! The little girl and her mother laughed and laughed as the poor cat ran around the house. Finally, the cat was caught and the lollipop removed. The girl got a new lollipop, the mommy got a blog story and everyone lived happily ever after. The end.

Why won’t he eat?

16 09 2008

Many of you know that I struggle with getting my son to eat anything but pizza, Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets, chocolate, store bought pigs in a blanket, pancakes and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I really have to try something new each week to trick him into eating much of anything. I have the Sneaky Chef’s book, but if it doesn’t look like cheese pizza, he’s not going to eat it. I cut things up into cute shapes, build animals and faces with the food. I have even tried rolling meatloaf up into little sausage looking things and making pigs in a blanket. He is so darn stubborn. When I do make him take a tiny baby bite, he gets so upset that he gags throws up!

Recently, I found a great blog with the cutest ideas for serving your kid’s food in muffin tins. I need all the help I can get. So last night I did this…

Believe it or not, he actually ate more tonight than he has in a long time! He didn’t touch the turkey burgers, but he ate his grapes, crackers, half of the carrots, tiny bites of banana and later a pickle and strawberry!

If any of you have more tricks up your sleeves, please let me know! I’m sure this tin thing will get old and he’ll go back to his old ways of gagging and whinning. I mean, common… how can you not like mashed potatoes or spaghetti? His poor future wife may never get to cook anything unless it’s shaped like pizza!

I’ve been tagged by Michelle at Brain Drops! My first time to be tagged for anything… how exciting.

So here are the rules:

1. Write about 5 specific ways blogging has affected you, either positively or negatively.
2. link back to the person who tagged you
3. link back to this parent post
4. tag a few friends or five, or none at all
5. post these rules— or just have fun breaking them

My 5 reasons for blogging and how it’s affected me:

I only have one negative, I spend way too much time on my computer! yikes! Since I was already doing this before blogging, I won’t count it as my 5. Okay moving on to the good stuff…

1. Friends

I started blogging to keep track of family events because I let my scrapbook get too far behind. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined meeting so many lovely women! That has been one of my favorite positives, making new friends from all over the country. It’s crazy how connected I feel to so many of you. I’ve really enjoyed your family stories, photos, getting to know your personalities, hearing about your struggles and how you get through them. I can’t wait to boot up my best friend, Mac, each morning and see what each of you are doing! Plus, I don’t have many friends who are stuck to their computers like me, so I feel normal when talking to you gals! ha.

2. Inspiration

I get so encouraged and inspired by reading other’s blogs. Whether it be in a creative way or personal way. There are so many neat women out there, it’s amazing! I only know a few handfuls of truly creative people in my real life. The past 10 years, I’ve worked from home and this summer I really began to miss being in a work environment with other creative types. It was so bad that I was beginning to have a mid life crisis! I was craving something more. I couldn’t figure out what it was at the time, but since blogging, I have felt so much better. I just needed to find you artsy fartsy people!! If you are reading this and you think you aren’t creative or artsy… if you have a blog… you are! Blogging is a very creative outlet for anyone, it can bring out your hidden talents for sure. Everyday I find a new busy mom who has something wonderful to share on her blog. We all wear many hats as moms, wives and women in general… it’s very inspiring to see you all doing so many neat things in addition to your everyday life.

3. Creative Outlet

Like I just said, blogging is very big creative outlet. I enjoy writing or creating things to entertain people. I have so many ideas in my head that need to come out! Designs I want to share! It’s so nice to have people appreciate what I have to share:-) And even if you don’t like it, at least I get my brain farts out. (I’m using the word fart a lot here today… sorry… brain gas just doesn’t sound as good.)

4. Learning

I have learned somethings about myself. Who knew I could actually write some witty things? According to some of you… I actually make you laugh at times. Wow! That’s cool. I also love all the tutorials and ideas you all share. Learning how to get my kids to eat, recipe and decorating ideas, computer technology and even Photoshop shortcuts… there is so much to learn here in blog world.

5. Faith

I feel so blessed to have met so many Christian women. I think that is the greatest thing blogging has done for me personally. Getting to know you has helped me grow spiritually as well. I have been so down and felt so alone sometimes, then I read something one of you wrote and I cry with relief. I get so encouraged by your openness. I am surrounded by great Christian women in my life, but never expected to find a whole gang of you online. God is good and I think he has spoken to me through blogging!  What a blessing.

* Okay, so now I am supposed to tag some of you. I will choose five new friends who I find hard to believe I didn’t know a few short months ago. I’m not one to send chain type letters out, but would love to hear what you all have to say:-) If you aren’t tagged, please leave a comment on how blogging has affected you.

Fear Not

14 09 2008

I hate being a parent! Not for the reasons you may think, but for all the fear that comes with being responsible for these little lives. Life was so darn easy before these kids came into my life!! I could sleep. All I had to think about was if I was going to get to the gym or what we would do that weekend. Well, I’m sure I had more to think about, but these are what I’m imagining I thought about. Who can remember that far back, right? Cut me some slack, I don’t sleep remember?

I guess I was born with that no fear gene. I never really had much to worry about, but having kids sure changed that! All I know now is since being a parent, I’ve had so much fear I never knew could exsist. Even the smallest thing like one of them running near a pointed edge coffee table can cause me to stress out! I remember, after my son came home from the hospital, telling my mom that this whole worrying thing stunk!

My pastor is doing a series about fear at church and it’s so what I needed right now. I thought I would share with all of you out there who might be struggling with some kind of worry or fear. It’s called Know God, No Fear. I think this is something many of us forget during our everyday struggles of work, family life, teaching our children and the endless loads of laundry.

You can listen to any of Pastor George’s sermons via internet on his Pod Casts. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the “Fear” series. The latest one about fear of the future will appear soon.

I’ll leave you with these verses:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“When you go through deep waters and great trouble. I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up… for I am the Lord you God.”  Is. 43: 2-3

  • We had a fun slumber party this weekend. Come back to see the fun! I am going to hammer down and get some work done, so I might be late with posts on Monday. I’ll be back soon though.
  • I have been working on the cutest (I think) new FREE download. Check back soon to get it!!
  • Picked up some great Halloween decorations that I can’t wait to tell you about!!
  • My husband just walked by. It’s sad when you get old and actually enjoy the smell of BenGay! ha.

Computer Coupon

6 09 2008

My son is a total computer freak! He loves playing on the computer and would be on Play Station 2 all day if I let him. I’m also a computer freak, so this might be some what my fault… monkey see, monkey do right? For being only 5, he’s really smart and sneaky. He knows how to use keyboard short cuts to get rid of my desktop junk and get to his favorite web sites. It’s crazy what he can do on the computer! I was so excited when Apple updated their parental controls. Now my son has to login to use the computer, only able to go to sites that I allow and it shuts down after 20 minutes.

To control my little freak’s time on my Mac and Play Station, I designed a coupon. This is a fun reward to use right away or save up several for the weekend. If you don’t have a Mac or great parental controls, I hope you enjoy this alternative idea.

Labor Day Weekend

1 09 2008

I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend! This was a fun family weekend at the Locurto house! Friday night, we kicked the weekend off with a kid friendly make your own pizza party.

I’ve been using Pilsbury’s Pizza Crust and it’s really good!

Notice my kid is wearing his typical super hero costume.

I think it’s a hit! The super hero and neighbor boys were so excited!

Too bad they didn’t care to eat… everyone ran off to play right after this photo. ha! It’s too much fun at the Locurto house to eat right?

My new favorite fast dessert is two-bite brownies with icing and sprinkles!

Always a hit with the kiddos. Especially our mini Christopher Walken!!!

(See his hair in photos above. His big brother fixed it!)

This got the parents to laughing. ha! Then, we had to get online to watch the “More Cowbell” skit on SNL. This cracks me up every time I watch it!! When the actors can’t keep from laughing, you know it’s hilarious!

Do you have a favorite SNL skit? I think More Cowbell, anything RosanaRosana Dana and the The Spartan Cheerleaders are my favorite.

Saturday, we discovered a beach at a nearby lake. I can’t believe I didn’t know this was here?? Luckily we’re in Texas and should have another month of swimming.

Here’s my crew. How nice! We had most of the beach to ourselves.

Then to end a perfect afternoon, we hit the nearby Pirate Themed McDonald’s. What a night of discoveries! This place was so fun! Notice everyone was way too hungry to smile for the camera. Little piggies! Pirates, salty fries and Star Wars toys… HEAVEN!!

These are my “tall friend’s” kids. See the little boy sipping milk on the right? He’s only 4 and the size of a 7-8 year old! At the age of 4, he’s already pretty awesome at sports. Someday I hope to be in a basketball suite watching him slam dunk!!!

Thanks friends (tall, medium and short) for helping us enjoy the long weekend. We love you guys!!

Sweet Girl

28 08 2008
***Warning! Mommy brag post***

I don’t know how I got so lucky. I think I may have about the sweetest little girl ever. Her brother and daddy may beg to differ, because she’s officially a mommy’s girl now! I love it.

Now that big bro is at school. Little sweetness and I have had some much needed mommy and me time. The first day he was away, we explored the playroom. Wow! It’s a whole new world without big bro. I didn’t realize how well she could talk. Seems like she didn’t stop talking the entire day! Ha. Everything is “Wook Mommy!” Normally this would really bug me, but it’s so cute in her high pitched Texas accent.

She had her 2 year check up yesterday and the doctor commented that they have never seen such a well behaved two year old! Several nurses had to come in our room to see this sweet girl. I was beaming!!! And of course, she said hi to each one with her tiny voice. If you don’t know, I have one of those “crazy boys”. So this calm, sweet thing is VERY foreign to me!  She has always been so tiny, but all the sudden shot up in height to the 90th percentile. Wow! Maybe she can finally wear jeans. I LOVE baby jeans.

Last night I found out my friends Dan and Stephanie had to take their one year old son to the hospital. He has seizures and it got bad enough where they had to be admitted over night. I feel better now that they are getting good care. I hope everything turns out okay. This morning after the boys left, I told my girl about her little friend and said we should pray for him. Oh my gosh… she said. “Yes!” and bowed her little head! So we said a prayer for baby Jackson. She started by saying “Dear God.” Then repeated “Amen.” after I was done. What a sweet, sweet thing!!

She just walked in my office with her pink sparkly high heals and matching purse!!! I’d better go and play now. I just love little girls!

UPDATE: She is counting paper on my office floor and counted to 12! I’m NOT kidding. Who knew she could count at all? Crazy.
